PROJECTS
EBUKHOSINI SOLUTIONS has initiated, established and offered support to a number of community based projects. These are people-centred empowerment and skills development initiatives that equip participants with knowledge and practical skills.
SHABAKA is a program that seeks to respond to some of the many contemporary challenges concerning Afrikan men: Low self esteem, unemployment crime, lack of cultural integrity, violence, substance abuse, unhealthy life styles and suicide.
A large number of Afrikan men get caught up in a negative circle of thought and behaviour with grave consequences not only for themselves, but for their families and the communities in which they live. The SHABAKA program provides a platform for men of different age groups to heal, develop and prosper. And, not the least, empower them in their quest to make healthy choices.
Activities include seminars, workshops, camps and training programmes. The name SHABAKA is from a great Pharaoh who around 700 B.C. reunited Kemet (Egypt), Nubia (Sudan) and Kush (Ethiopia) after many years of decline in the Nile Valley area.
Ukuzimisela Youth Leadership Programme seeks to empower young people who want to make a difference, are eager to learn and show leadership potential. Through participation in the program, the overall objective lies in developing a practical understanding of leadership through processes of inspiration, exposure, challenges and empowerment. Leadership is seen as an ability to apply planning and mobilisation skills into a practical model for change within a particular community.
The main focus of the program is to stimulate and strengthen the already latent potential in each individual and the group as an organism. Integral to the program is an underlying ethos of cultural methodology and pedagogy. Essentially this means that the program represents perspectives of particular relevance to young people in South Afrika, through which they will be encouraged to study, examine, reflect and learn by participating holistically in processes that are centred in their own historical and cultural references.
The module-based training programme runs for 4-8 months and include sessions on:

R.I.S.E. Mzansi fuses hip-hop, traditional Afrikan music, cultural identity and community awareness.
In 2006, R.I.S.E. Mzansi released the “Amabutho Mixtape”, a compilation of young unsigned rappers and poets, presenting inspirational messages over tracks that were a fusion between Afrikan music and hip-hop beats.

AFURAKA Cultural Community Development is a program under R.I.S.E. Mzansi, and is working to initiate, plan, coordinate and manage educational projects related to community development and capacity building.
The core focus is on history, culture and empowerment. R.I.S.E. MZANSI AFURAKA is convinced that these focus themes must form an integral part of the work against prejudice, xenophobia and ignorance. Programmes include seminars, youth mobilization, cultural workshops and events.
In 2009 - 2010 AFURAKA implemented the pilot project of "Afrika History Week" on request by The Community Development Department of City of Johannesburg Municipality. The programme engaged youth and adults in four townships in creative and practical work against xenophobia and social exclusion.
